Post up your exhaust system, muffler etc..
« on: May 03, 2006, 09:28:47 AM »
Well I'm looking to replace the exhaust system on my 318is. From a previous towing experience by the P.O., the car was dropped at an angle biased towards the rear valence, bending the rear valence and damaging the rear muffler and resonator. It sounds super raspy but at the same time sound nasty at lower RPMs, pretty indicative of an old japanese 4cyl with no rotted out exhaust.

I noticed several of you went the aftermarket muffler route (dynomax, magnaflow) as opposed to a full blown aftermarket exhaust system, mainly due to costs approaching $700.

Doing a search there's not many threads about aftermarket systems. If you could, at least to enhance the searches in the future for people like me...

Post up...

1)Exhaust system or Muffler (brand and part no)
2)A Video Clip (idle/moving/accelerating etc) being outside, in-car or by-stander.
3)A pic or 2 of it showing it off (maybe an undercar pic)
4)Price you paid.
4) A brief review

- 91 318is (loves to warm-start-stall
- 08 135i European Delivery 9/18/08

I installed a Dynomax ultra flow on my Jeep Cherokee, and I love it. Its a straight through pipe so I don't think you could get any less restriction. Despite the fact that its straight through, its not loud. It has a very low tone and it really emphasizes the engine gurgle. I always drive with the windows down just to listen.

Best thing is I bought it from Advanced Auto for $40.

I'll be installing one of these on my bimmer ASAP along with a Super Converter to reduce some restriction in the cat.

Here's an article about a guy who installed one on his 318is

I have the same Dynomax muffler as that guy, but with the proper 2.25" inlet and outlet.  I never got around to getting a tip, so maybe that's why my car is horribly boomy on the highway.  Hopefully once I get a tip and move the exhaust exit out from under my car the "boominess" will go away.  I have to measure the gap I need an order a tip.  I'll let you know how it goes.
