Check your oil caps!
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:48:53 AM »
So...i'm a lazy bastard this year and for the first time, waited 8mo to change the oil in my M42, I drive the car very seldomly and with moving and work stress, never got around to changing the oil. I doubt I put 3k on it since the last oil change though.

I check the oil cap, and theres a little caffe latte smear on it. So my first thought is an about to fail HG. BTW the car runs cool still, no overheating issues. So I proceed with the oil change and the oil comes out black, and as consistent as oil comes. With new oil in, and the cap wiped off, I put 10mi in the car, then check the oil cap again. Another little smear of caffe latte. Still no overheating.

I consulted a few gearheads of mine and they agree it could just be a lil moisture in contact w/oil. I'm hoping its not a HG related problem, because that means its S-motor SWAP TIME for me, and i'm not financially ready (cash in hand) to do it just yet.

Is this normal?

Yes it is normal. This happens especially if you drive the car sparingly.
