[ Fuel Leak! ] - What size fuel hose do I need??
« on: February 21, 2008, 06:34:39 PM »
I smell a fuel leak under the hood.  Not sure where yet.  I figure I'd pick up some fuel hose on the way home from work and dig into it.

I've got a 91 e30 318is. I've searched the forums and didn't find the answer.  I don't have my e36 Bentley on me.

1) What diameter(s) fuel hose do I need? (Can I use a roll of HP Fuel line or do I need to order the BMW parts $$$? )
2) Are there any places I should look first? (known problem areas)
3) Do I need specialized hose clamps?

Hope to take the car on a trip this weekend.

Thanks!!!!!

8mm, IIRC. My bet would be at least one of the two, 2-inch or so sections of fuel line that connect to the fuel rail, which is buried underneath the intake manifold. You'll have to pull at least the upper half of the manifold to get to them, which means a new gasket for that.. Although you don't need the specific BMW parts, you should use hose clamps designed for fuel injection.

The hose is 8mm metric but 5/16" is almost identical. (.3149" vs .3125")
It could also be the injector o-rings but most likely it's fuel line. 5' of hose  and some new clamps will replace all of the under hood lines. I'd measure it to make sure about the length because I'm guessing.
