Nice write up.  I'll be doing that myself one of these days, my driver's side pneumo springs are weak.

Nice write up and printed both of them. Currently re doing my passenger seat with the mtech/micro combo and what to refinish everything. Will even repaint the bases with SEM paint. I just now have to search where to get little shocks as not sure I can get them from BMW. Haven't looked at realoem yet.

Bmwman, i have a question for you... Right now my drivers seat is having a weird issue..

The inside part of the seat back will move around freely on the hinge point at the bottom of the seat back. I can adjust the seat back angle and it will lock in, but there is something broken on the inside hinge part.. i am thinking that it might be the L shaped tab that you welded on your seat?

I looked at your DIY..

I will be taking the seat out next week i think. I will most likely take it apart and do all the items that you addressed in your DIY. However from my explanation of the above issue, do you have any idea what it most likely is?

Thanks, Alex

It sounds like the metal tabs are busted. Find someone with MIG / TIG welder. Alternatively, you could drill-out the old one, make a new one from scrap steel & pop-rivet it in with a beefy rivet. Good luck!

Visit HERE for a plethora of 318iS stuff and some other randomness.  Would you say I have a, plethora, of pinatas?

I have a 140amp mig.. i just wanted to kind of know what i was getting into before i started taking things apart... i also have some spare steel around the garage, so if mine are too far gone, i will fab something up.. maybe out of 1/4" angle iron.. and a nut, like the factory but much thicker/stronger...

BMW sell the shocks, not cheap but if I am in there now, I want to do it all once. Need to go out of town so I will get back to it next week and will have some pics of the finished products. The write-ups here are good enough. Found this one for just the shock replacement:
