I just bought a 92 318i 4 door.

I am new to this site as of today and a first time owner of a 92 318i.

I would like to know how to get a few more horse power out of my car. I was thinking of a cold air intake but I can't seam to find one to fit my 92 318i.
Anyone know where I can find one?..............also I am confused on what my car is called............is it a E30 or E36?? Also I have a small hair line crack on my exhaust manifold, does anyone know where I can get a good used one, or a good header that will fit my car?

your car is probably an e36 although some 1991 e30 might have been sold in 1992 as they kept producing it for a few weeks that year. post some pictures!

the cold air wont do much but a nice sound. if you build a proper heat shield you might gain 1-2hp as the factory intake as not much restriction. you dont have to find a kit that costs 200$ you can get a filter for 20$ with the adapter on ebay and then build the shield out of aluminum you found at home depot.

if you want more performance go with a chip, its the best value $/hp mod known
you could also go for a lighter flywheel.
i'd suggest you go after handling rather than performance with a good suspension setup

for the manifold, it might be repairable. you could also find a good one in a salvage yard. after all your car iss 16 years old should be easy to find

your welcome. since i have no school today i thought about finally doing a proper heat shield for my CAI. if it isnt too cold to do it (its -2Celsius today so i should be fine) i will do a write up so you can see how that goes

Congratulations on the purchase.  I would also suggest installing a lightweight flywheel and improving the suspension.

i had to work tonight so i couldn't start the CAI heat shield. plus it started snowing
i did buy a sheet of aluminum, metal glue and fuel lines (you'll see why)
i hope i can do the project soon but it might have to wait for another week since i have university assignments due tuesday and some parties on the weekend. hope you're not in a hurry

what are the tricks to improve my suspension?  I just put new struts and shocks on and it helped a lot. also i am getting new tires. should I put the same tires on 205-60-15 or should I go up to 225-60-15. anyone have any ideas?
