....Also it's not like the S42 was even intended for idling smoothly or using the first half of it's RPM range....

:D:D:D ...this engine have an idle at 5000rpm... :D:D:D

thats where our engine already sees the redline comming...:D

Here's the info and a pic from the seller:

I have some S42 (late E36 STW)parts that I ended up with as part of a much bigger "job lot" that I purchased. I just want to get rid of them, so the price is way below what you would pay for them new.I will only sell them as one lot, not interested in splitting.
1.1x set S42 valve springs, 2 sets retainers and spring bases
2.2x S42 remote oil filter heads
3.2x S42 fuel rails and clamps.
4. 1x pair S42 cam carriers and caps.
5.2x sets S42 cam followers(solid type)
6. 1x set M42 JE pistons, one compression ring, includes pins, circlips and rings.
7. 1x M42 timing cover
Plus many small items, gaskets, seals etc.
1250 Euros for the lot.

All parts are brand new, unmarked and in original packaging.email for more info or pics if required.

Do you think you could also take some measurements of the airbox dimentions?  Could you make fg or cf airboxes in your shop you plan to start with your own business?  It seems like there would be strong demand for these but few manufacturers sell them.

Colin-
Thanks for the info mate :) i think i remember that job lot....was he trying to sell it on racecarsdirect.com aswell?
Even though he has sold all the parts already, could you ask him if he has any high-res pictures of the parts?

E30_4cyl-
I didnt want to say this too early, so as not to let people down, but im in the process of building carbon fiber parts myself.

Im studying Product/Industrial design in college and i have been using carbon allot lately, so i will start making cf car parts over the summer.
I will be building them for my own project but i could do some batch production if there is a need for it.
On the list so far is:
M42/44 Carbon fiber valve cover
Carbon fiber plenum for use with m3 throttle bodies
Carbon fiber airbox/airscoop to be mounted behind the front grille ( a flexible hose will connect this to the plenum)
E36 carbon fiber interior panels
And a few more secret things :):) that will be revealed later

There are still some details to sort out about the parts but i will sort them out closer to the production time ( at the moment i'm sourcing materials)

Any other parts that you guys want i will see if i can make them.

RouteZero, If i pass my 2nd interview with them, ill be starting an apprentiship with Prodrive in their composites department in september - Im hoping they allow/encourage personal projects :D So if they dont let me make CF parts there, then you can put me down on that list of yours for some bits and bobs!

Sounds good mate.
Good luck with your interview with prodrive, they will be an excellent company to work for.
I wonder how they would feel about one the wrc engines going missing?!?!.....a flat four powered e30 would be pretty awesome :):):)

BTW: Sourcing CF is a pain in the ass...
..Damn airline industry buying as much as they can.
The only local place that will supply it is trying to charge me way over the top...i may have to look overseas....at least shipping will be cheap (lightweight :) )

Currently im not 100% on which types of cf i will use, more than likely i will use different methods for different parts, based on there complexity and size.
Wet lay up and vacuum bagged wet lay up are simple enough.
Vacuum bagged wet lay up, which is autoclaved is harder.
Then pre-pregnated autoclaved is even harder to do.

Good news is that im finally finished my lectures, so after the exams i can get going on the car and the parts :)

Thanks! 400 people applied and im in the last 20, there are 15 places up for grabs. Prodrive is my dream job, working with Aston Martins and the Subarus :D I got shown round their car showroom while i was there, and I 'met' the Manx E30 M3 - such a beautiful car!

Pre-preg for the win! Id try and use that as much as possible really. We're lucky enough to be one of the only colleges in the UK with an autoclave, and I start a week-long intensive on composites in a week or two. Im on a motorsport and race car engineering course at the moment and im really looking forward to doing some high-tech stuff!

Pre-preg is brilliant, extremely strong and lightweight. But its also very expensive to buy and mold (needing an autoclave and all that).
We have one big Autoclave in our college but i wont have much access to it over the summer. I might investigate how to build a small autoclave for certain parts but it'll be a while before i can even think about buying a large one.
For the moment vacuum bagged, baked, wet lay up is what im working with.

That manx m3 is amazing, with such a beautiful sound.
It would be a dream come true if i could get my m42/4 to be similar to the s14 found in the e30 m3.
Almost as If BMW had continued with the 4 cylinder m3 idea with the e36....thats the car i want to build :):):):)

Indeed, autoclaves rock! As you say though, damn expensive :S
Indeed that manx is so amazing and i cant believe ive tocuhed it :p it was beautiful!
Have you heard the metric mechanic 2.1 M42 stroker? It sounds stunning [even though you can hear idots talking over it]. I smile so much every time I hear it becasue I know that ill be running mine with a carbon airbox and ITB's, which theirs doesnt. So it sould have even more of an S14 howl :D

i was thinking on that... a direct bolt on ITB with carbon airbox for the m42!
