Oil Leak AHH!!

Yes I prefill the filter before putting it back into the housing. And the check engine light comes on after the cars been at idle for a bit. Now it has been raining here and maybe something got wet while I was putting everything back on. The car idles fine and all and everything seems right but just the check engine light being on pisses me off.

Check your oil again, I bet you're low. I think there is a separate oil level light, but it can throw a CEL as well. Otherwise, make sure that the oil level/pressure sensor is making good contact. There are 2 more plugs in that trough in the block, so if none of the other stuff works, you may have to take off the intakes and clean those plugs out. If there was enough oil down there, it probably fouled the contacts.

i've learned to just accept that no matter how many oil leaks you fix on an M42, another one will pop up immediately. so i just keep myself optimistic! look at it this way. it constantly gets fresh oil when you have to top it off ever week. my worst leak currently is the profile gasket. it flings oil all over the place from the crank pulley! hahaha..

Actually, now that I have the right torque on the chain tensioner (it leaks a lot when it is loose...) and some of the other gaskets done, I have no oil leaks at all and I'm running synthetic oil. Took a bit of work to get it that way, though.

So how many quarts does a m42 take? I did check the dip stick and I was off by about half a quart or so after I put in 5 (which I heard was what you put in).

huh, mine generally takes abput 5 1/2 quarts, so you're good to go there.

Ok I just did the following. Cleaned AFM, ICV, Replaced a Cracked hose, Double checked all my connections and now the car will turn on fine and idle fine but the check engine light will light up after about 1minute of the motor idling. But when I pressed onto the intake boot that goes from the AFM to the TB the idle goes up and when I let go it drops back down. So could it be the hose is cracked and it should get replaced? Would that cause the CEL to turn on? The car runs and drives fine and while I drive it the light won't turn on. It only turns on when its at idle.
