Bilstein/Eibach or H&R cup kit Question.
« on: January 22, 2008, 06:42:37 PM »
thinking of uprating my cars suspension.
It currently has a 40mm drop with M-tec Bilstein shocks.

I was going to get Bilstein inverted shocks(which are called B8s over here) and a set of Eibach springs. Then some H&R arbs after that.

BUT....
I have been offered a full H&R cup kit (in the box) for pretty good money.

I'm half tempted to get this, but I want to know which is the Bilstien and Eibach set up alot better? And for how much are they to buy from the States.

I'm after good handling (I can't stand body roll) but I don't want the car to be excessively hard either since it is only a road car, I have a track iS to rattle my fillings:D

Any advice welcome:)

Bilstein/Eibach or H&R cup kit Question.

The general consensus of the Eibach cup kit is that it is too soft but really low.  (All show no go)

I don't know about the H&R cup kit but if it is based on the H&R Race springs:D:D:D

If it's a daily driver I can see not wanting to be too stiff. The main consideration would be the type of roads you regularly drive on. My personal preference is slightly stiffer than OEM on the springs and stiffer bars. H&R Cup Kit is about US$675 and up here in the states. It is on the soft side but I don't know the exact rates. I wouldn't go any higher than 150-175 on the front and about 300 on the rear. - especially if I also had a bone jarring track car.

Ya, I do have a good few backroads around which can be bumpy.
I'm also on 17" Algernons so them, coupled to a hard ride would be pretty unpleasent I'd expect.

Other chassis mods currently in the car are M3 eccentric control arm bushes, E46 M3 cab rear top mounts and Powerflex subframe bushes.
The real thing I'm after is to stop body roll since I race Go-karts too and I like the similar flat feel in a car.

The Cup-kit I can get is a nice bit less than the equivilent US$675 too:cool:

Anybody know off hand how much Eibach springs and the Blistien inverted shocks(Think they could be the Sport ones) are over there.

Cheers, thanks for the help so far:)

Low cost stiffer front sway bar.
I added an adjustible link to the right side (you actually only need one to be able to adjust it) using this parts list:
17's add a bit of stiffness due to the higher spring rate of the tire. I am still working on stiffening the rear bar by making it adjustible. Just haven't had time to do this:

Thats brilliant, I love little upgrades like these that cost nothing, I can weld pretty well too so I have no reason not to do it!!!

Saves paying 350euro for a set of H&R arbs:D

The 318iS and the E30M3 have more or less the same arbs in any case don't they?

So does this mod make body roll more or less the same as an M3 since I'll be probably be in one at the weekend to compare it.

Think I'll be getting the Cup kit alright now since the shocks I have at the moment seem abit bouncy at times and my springs are only some cheapo Euro-carparts jobs anyway.

Is the H&R kit kind of in the middle of the the Factory M-tec springs and shocks and the Bilstein sports with Eibach springs so?

If it was, I reckon, I'd be happy enough with it since running 215/40 R17 good year F1s should take care of the rest of the spring rate that the H&R kit is lacking and will stick to the road well enough to make the new arb design pay off:D

Thanks for all the help D. Clay.:)

Installed the H&R kit in yesterday...

Not a happy camper, lol.
Way too soft for my liking especially with 215s on 7.5J R17s:(

Kind of trying to decide whats the best option now. Take it all out again and put in some Bilstsin Sports with Eibach springs or leave the springs from the H&R kit in but swap the shocks for some Koni adjustables???

I don't know about how the ride is with Eibach's but maybe this will help.

http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=58896&highlight=%22Spring+Rate%22

The spring rates are almost exactly the same as stock.
