Fuel leak right under intake manifold
« on: January 11, 2008, 04:14:49 PM »
i have noticed recently that my car has been dropping fuel, poped the hood to see it running from under the intake manifold down the fuel line and dripping onto the starter motor. electricity and fuel isn't a good combination i hear. This is on a M42 by the way.

Last weekend i tried to pull the intake manifold off. I managed to get the manifold lose but unable to get it off due to all the colant and vacuum line connected to who knows where.

Does any one know of a write up or a few pointers to get to the fuel rail? are there any special tools required?

Thanks for the help
Glenn

i think you will need to remove the intake manifold. i'd also check the fuel pressure to see if the regulator has gone bad. higher fuel pressure would get the weaker parts of the system to break and leak.

and welcome to the club! when you have it would be nice if you could make a profile thread with pictures!
good luck

Yeah, just disconnect those two lines or so from the throttle body heater, and disconnect the throttle body from the intake manifold.  Eventually you'll get it all apart.  Putting it back together is, as they say, the reverse of removal :)  And don't forget, you'll have to bleed the cooling system since you will have had it apart.

is there any special tool to take the throttle bottle off? i couldn't get my socket wrench into the bottom 2 bolts. you need a long skinny socket.

use an extension its the same bolts as the top ones 10mm if i remember right. you will need the extension for other bolts on the intake manifold as well so try to borrow one or invest a little money tools, it always pays off in the end

by the way i assume you mean throttle body, i've never heard of bottles, hope i'm not saying pure BS here lol
