Author Topic: 318i Door/Seatbelt Chime Malfunction (Read 3231 times)

Hey I just purchased a new to me 91 318i. I've only had it a few days and the door/seatbelt chime starting acting funky. Whenever I opened the door and sat in the car it would chime once (without key in ignition). Then it started to chime while the car was under load (cornering, accelerating). The number of chimes is random...sometimes only once and up to eight times.

It was irritating me so I dropped the valance under the dash and unplugged the darned thing. I taped over the connectors. Now it is silent

Is this fix okay or will this lead to other gremlins? I can live without the darned thing.

You're fine without it. It is the first "mod" I did to each of my e30's.

Yeah, I got so tired of mine I took it out. I put it under the "weight reduction" excuse.

Lol mine came out for the same reason so I stuck an extra dome light down there and now I have footwell lights

. Unfortunatley, I havn't gotten around to wiring it yet.
