e36 to e30 m42 swap info needed (yes I seached)
« on: January 07, 2008, 03:00:17 AM »
All the different threads about what does and doesn't fit/interchange has my head swimming....

I have a chance to get a low mileage m42 from a 92 e36, and it includes the rad, ecu, and all accessories.

Am I correct when reading/interpreting that the intake manifolds AND the heads need to be swapped?

I was just being pre-emptive in buying this motor, in case my m42/e30 ever goes, I dont wanna kick myself for NOT buying it.

you shouldnt need to swap the head, just the intake, valve cover, and oil pan.

I think the profile gasket affected cars with a build date up to and including 11/93...

if the engine has more than 80k miles, you should be all set. if not, its a nice time to renew the timing case and headgasket with the engine out of the car.

I guess I'm lucky, the PO has this motor as a swapout spare, he upgraded to a e36 six cylinder motor, and documented the date and mileage @ time of removal.

Thanks for all the replies, I don't wanna get myself into a swap-spare motor without doing the research, for my own peace of mind.

I'm assuming the ECu that comes with this motor will NOT be used in my e30?

Should I offer it for sale, including the ancilliaries..
