Read through the wiring diagrams of my e36 m42 with my friend because we are ready to do a AEM piggyback, we discovered the m42 bank fires 1 and 3, and 2 and 4. Not as efficient as sequential injection, Hopefully we can get the piggyback working, we want to incorporate a full plug and play kit for the m42.
Has anyone else experimented with other piggybacks with success? Were you able to delete the afm mechanism? thanks

Power Commander III for Suzuki bikes has been used, search for Clubsport in this forum. But It alter the signal going from ecu to injectors every 250rpm, but it can do nothing to remove afm... I'll use it soon on my m44 with a custom turbo I'm building...

there is people with smt-6 and smt7 like Ludiagsm.

Are you NA, right? So you want delete the afm for a MAP of a MAF?

i am currently using "perfect power" Smt-7 piggy back , and it has the possibility to remove the AFM after a period of "learning mode" with a Map-Sensor...I am now on Learning mode Period... After the learning mode Period i will be removing the AFM and work with MAP Sensor Only... ( M42 turbo project ) (i am currently working 0,5 bar but soon piston kit and custom intake will be taking place for more pressure )

Don't know if its available there, but here in the Uk there is a piggyback called the Dastek Unichip-Q. This has the ability to remove the AFM also, you can run with MAP sensor or TPS if you wish too.

It is similar to the Perfect Power.

with smt6 you can do that i have some expiriance

plaese take a picture on your afm if it has spiral spring and gate witn potenciometer you must to think about air temp sensor he is mounted inside in the afm

I have also done an AFM to TPS conversion on an M30 wih great results, but the M42 will need some sort of modifcation to the inlet manifold/throttle body to make room for the larger TPS needed. If converting from AFM to MAP, this obviously isnt a problem, just T' off the fuel pressure regulator vac hose. Again this was with the Dastek Uni-Q

I have a very big experience with the Dastek Unichip as the distributor for Greece the last 7 years (sold the business 5 months ago).

It is by far the best of all and specially with 60-2 motronic BMW's.
Check your local dealers.

Dragging up an old thread... The Unichip on the M42 actually uses TPS for its "look up load". So, I am unsure what will happen if I just unplug the AFM and have the Unichip keep the ECU happy with feeding it signals it would have seen from the AFM?

Incidently mapping my M42 (standard) with the Unichip, power went up from 142bhp to 153bhp (Flywheel figures)

Having seen the threads here about the Perfect Power units, I would say the Unichip is a far superior piece of kit.

Dragging this old thread up again, but did you follow through with this? If so, I'm interested in hearing about your experience. Did you fit a MAF to replace the AFM?

I've been reading about your experiences with the Unichip on S14.net.
