Bilstein / H&R questions
« on: January 02, 2008, 02:53:37 PM »
Hey guys

I'm looking for some new shocks and springs for my E30.

Whats the difference between the Bilsteins HD's / Bilstein Sports? Which are better?

Also can anyone recommend a good place to get either?

And finally, does anyone know any site that does uprated bushes for E30's? As in subframe, trailing arm bushes etc.

Thanks!

Bilstein Sports are for a lowered suspenstion, the HD's are for stock ride height(or just a slight drop like M3 springs or H&R Sports). I have the HD's and love them. If you search around you can find them cheaper than Turner or Bav Auto, I don't know where you can find busings for our cars.

they are basically the same thing (i think the rears are identical); sports have a slightly shorter shock tube...

I have sports, they work great... denis has HDs, they work great...

i would describe them as a tad stiff but very predictable

http://www.powerflex.co.uk/  for bushings one of the best brand!!  and be carefull with those complete bilstein sets... the springs are from H&R only other color and higher prices.   bilstein only manufactures dampers!! so, buy bilstein dampers and then have a look for some cheaper H&R springs. saves money...

Yes I got Powerflex for my last car but I thought there may be a cheaper and as good quality bush kit somewhere in the US.

I had H&R anti roll bars on my last car too. Very impressed too. What kind of Anti roll bars do ye guys use?

It all depends on what kind of bushings you want.

If I were you, I'd give Patrick @ BMA Parts a call...he can certainly help you find what you need!

it depends what bushings you are looking for! hard for improved handling or soft like the original?

Just improved handling yet not too stiff. Something like the powerflex stuff except without the expensive prices! :p

ok... i think the original ones will be good.(for my taste) on my daily driven car i changed all the bushings at once and it is like day and night. on the rear the original 318is bushings and on the front the m3 e30 bushings...
on my newest project 318ise30 i am gonna change every bushing for powerflex.. i will also change the engine, gearbox and differential bushings.. when its finished i can tell you directly about the differences

On my car rear subframe is mounted on the aluminium, front and rear wishbones on the hard polyurethane. Now it is very loud in the car, but it feels very stable during cornering and braking, much more stable than it was before and it was realy big difference. Will see how it will be after camber plates and coilover will be instaled. :D
