So I recently purchased an E30 (m42) project with a cracked head which I plan to replace.  After doing some research Ive found answers to many of my questions, but also added some confusion from reading through so much info and sorting out the crap.  Ive come up with a few questions that it would be nice to have the answers laid out in front of me from people who know.

All the valves appear in good shape, and assuming that they are would they have to be reground to match the new head?  Should I just buy a new valves, and in doing this would they have to be ground?
I also am curious if I was to replace with an E36 M42 head should I use the valves for an E30 or E36?  Will the head be a direct replacement ie no problems with E30 intake manifold, cams, or gears?

Thank you in advance for helping, hopefully someone will point me in the right direction so I can get the ball rolling on this project. Its frustrating to have a sweet car in you driveway that you cant even drive its just in the way.

i haven't done this myself, but in general the e36 head will work. There's a thread around about the temp switch / sender issue but it's no big deal. E36 valves have a smaller stem, they are a little lighter, and the m50 lifters hold a little more oil. if you plan on a high revving engine, invest in new beehive valve springs.
