I broke my waterpump while trying to extract it. I forgot about the allen bolt and started to extract it, then it broke where the extracting bolts go. I tried to pry it out, but it is in there tight! Has this happened to anyone or does anyone have any solutions?

..can you take a pic to show your situation? I'd say that a few options exist depending on the angle of approach, it can either be a ROYAL PITA or a moderate issue to tackle.
If more clearance is needed to see what's going on, take the radiator out, take some pics and let's see what we can do to help you.

The engine is out of the car, so that is good. I will get some photos tomorrow.

make sure the engine is secure, put your foot up against it, and pull

The only thing holding that water pump in the bore is the friction of a rubber o-ring against it.  So if you pull hard enough, the water pump will come out of the bore.  Install a new water pump and you'll be good to go.

I am going to try that. I have only been pulling at it sitting in a chair. I thought it would just slide out, but then the extractors made me think that it is in the engine tightly. The engine is on the ground, so I can get down there and see what I can muster. It is also freezing ass cold in my garage, my little old school space heater isn't doing a damn thing in there. It is warm in about a 1 foot diameter around it....

Will update with progress...

...man up - eat your wheaties and get creative with some tapping. Don't forget the timing case cover is brittle so don't f'up again.

Be glad you didn't break the bolt in the motor like the PO of one of my m42s :rolleyes:

Some say seized water pumps are the worst thing on m42s...I almost believed them. I have done a total of 5 and have been relatively lucky.

Brace yourself and don't sit while doing this.

Bolt something to the pulley flange that you can pry with.  Apply heat and get medieval on it's ass.
All that warning stuff and CYA on my part applies.

I got it out, it seemed like it was suctioned in there, but broke free. I was checking to see if it was a plastic impeller, it was metal one. I guess it probably needed changed anyway. :rolleyes:

Now I can get busy with cleaning this grease magnet of an engine...
