Car Wreck.
« on: December 09, 2007, 01:45:55 PM »
Well on my way to hang out with this girl I'm dating last night I got into a pretty bad wreck.

I was about 60 miles from my apartment when I went to
take the on ramp for another highway. Well I was going around 60-70 mph and hit a slippery spot. The back end came out and I tried to counter steer like I'm used to. It gripped and threw me into the guard rail on the right side of the road front end first, then the back end came around and hit the guard rail and then sent me off a huge hill at about 50ish mph. I took down a street sign poll before going down to the bottom of a huge ditch. I sat in my car for about 30 minutes before getting out, just screaming at the top of my lungs. I finally got out and looked around. Its not as bad as you would think but I havent seen the under body. The hill I went down had a bunch of HUGE logs that I tumbled down. I'm surprised the car didnt roll. I'll try to take some pics soon.

this is not my month. I can honestly say I cried last night looking at the damage I could see.

damn, that's terrible. I can't imagine what I'd feel like if something happened to my  car, although it is replaceable. As Febi said, thank God you are okay. This month really has been crappy to you-tickets, wreck, I hope that's the end of it.

Good luck, don't sweat it too much. Life goes on....

I only took six crappy pics with my point and shoot last night.

I'm going back to where I wrecked when the ice and rain
lets up to take pictures of where I flew off and the guard rail
to show how lucky the car and I really am.

Also my windshield spidered.

but here.

Febi I know I'm more than happy to walk away unscratched. I had my seatbelt thankfully. Its just I loved this car. needed very little tlc to be flawless and on top of all my court dates and tickets why does this have to happen now. Thats kinda whats stuck in my head. This is a horrible month and its supposed to be happy times.

Is the car driveable/moveable? That's really too bad...

I'll keep you in my prayers, man. Wish I could do more to help out.

I actually drove it a 1/2 mile out of the ditch i was in. Real bad vibrations (I think broken control arms) and horrible idle. No lights came on though.

Thanks a bunch man I appreciate the thoughts. I had a lot of plans for it
this January after my last court date...oh well.

Fixable.

Alright there is quite alot of bent metal but it's all fixable.

From what I can see:

You'll need a new bonnt, wing, front and rear bumpers, front panel, under tray, rear light, petrol filler cap and the rhs griller section and a passenger side light since the holder is probably broken.

You'd pick up all those parts easy enough second hand.
Then abit of filler to smooth out the scratches on the 1/4 panel

Since it's black, you'll get away with just spraying the bonnet and the right hand side since the colour change wouldnt show up that easy.

You actually got off very lightly to be honest if you hit a barrire at over 50mph.
Very lucky you didn't roll it on the way down or get hurt in the crash.

Bad luck always seems to come in bulk:(

The number of crashes I've heard of people having in E30s now and just coming out of them with no injuries apart from emotional scars and pride destroyed is un-canny.

From hitting poles up to 80mph and spinning around the road and in one case an iS that cleared a fence upside down before rolling 4 or 4 times after being pulled into a bank after a blow-out:eek:

Really bad idle and vibrations is probably because the engine could be after breaking an engine mount or the fan could be catching on the fan surround

theres more damage than pictured. I'll take more soon in the day.

You forgot new windshield.

Its DSM so black doesnt quite blend in...especially during the day.
But yea I'm very lucky!
I think I looked down after getting on the brakes and I hit the railing
at 65+
I dont know why the car didnt roll. Miracle.

Depending on how your insurance is configured (of course) I don't think I'd bother fixing that one.  "Can be fixed" and "should be fixed" are two different things.  Glad you came through okay though -- that's the most important thing.

I thought I'd repost GearheadE30's response to your other thread a couple of week's ago. It's eerily relevant. Maybe he should change from GearheadE30 to Nostradamus'sE30.

"Well, at this point I don't have any tickets and hope it stays that way. The worst thing for me is all of the people at school trying to get me to do stupid things in my car. After spinning my car on a highway off ramp (empty, luckily) I don't do that any more. I'm just thanking God that I learned before killing someone, myself, or wrecking my car that I have put so much into. ... If you feel like driving fast, go to an empty parking lot and corner fast, accelerate, etc. That way if something does happen, there is a lot less damage to fix."

Too bad you had to repeat his mistake (with much more damaging results) to learn your lesson. You did learn it didn't you?

Glad you are okay. The car is replaceable.

Try autocrossing.
