RX-7 4 piston caliper adapting bracket
« on: November 19, 2007, 11:38:07 PM »
I am starting a group buy for the caliper adaption bracket for the RX-7 4 piston caliper. I will provide the bracket for the caliper, and you can do the rest. If you would like me to source all the parts for you pm me separate of this GB. What is needed in total is shown below. I would like to keep this organized so if you post in the gb on r3v, or e30tech, do not post in this one. start a list. I will have prices for the bracket tomorrow.

89-91 rx-7 (turbo II) calipers
91-93 corrado g60 (1.8L supercharged) rotors
adapter plate for calipers (what i will provide)
machine 1mm of surface either off the wheel hub, or the rotor hat and 1mm difference

hey why not make them for the willwood calipers? there is a bracket drawing somewhere. I doubt anything will be gained from rx7 calipers

have you seen the rx-7 calipers? they're 4 piston, vs. the 2 piston stockers. I'm not wanting to start a debate about rx7 vs. willwood, brembo calipers in this thread. Yes willwood and brembo's are better, but they're also 5 times the cost. I can make some for you if your interested, but you could also buy them from massivelee for basically the same end cost, and he would have done all the leg work for you.

Don't you want to yse E38 735 brembo calipers?
http://bp2.blogger.com/_MjQwpLOTuIM/RsCk-rEy4XI/AAAAAAAAAGs/EMrSNI4k-38/s1600-h/IMG_0012.JPG

didn't know about them. If you can link me to some more information i could probably arange one for them too. but start a different thread about it as i said before. and after googling them and looking on ebay i do not see any 4 piston calipers, let alone brembos for that car.

linky to wilwood info please? who's massivelee? Any reason why no-one has done a really moderate upgrade just spacing the existing caliper? What are the RX7 ones like? What was the inspiration for them out of interest?

he's a memeber on the forums. my brother does some work for him. Great guy, great prices. The rx7's are 4 pistons callipers, thicker rotors, and can be found on ebay for around 20-50$ + shipping. rotors are around 60$ for both. machining the rotors or hubs to fit, another 60$. so thats a brake kit for under 300 assuming you rebuild the calipers, paint them, and you gotta buy brackets.

RX7 calipers average $75 for a pair on ebay. At salvage yards the price can vary depending on whether the yard knows that they are desirable for upgrades on other cars including RX7's. The Wilwoods do not use a dust seal except for the Billet Dyna Pro which is radial mount and cost $269 each and need a radial to lug mount bracket. The $125-$130 Wilwoods require regular maintenance as the pistons are not protected with dust seals. Race cars get a lot more maintenance per mile than street cars.  They should be resealed at least once a year. Performance wise they are arguably no better than RX7 calipers.
I think the E38 7 series Brembo's are European only.  There are Brembos also used on Cadillacs, EVO's and the like but they are made under license and other than the Brembo name, are cheap.
The RX7 calipers are the most bang for the buck. To get better you will pay over $500 for good Wilwoods.
Any idea what the approximate price will be?

well i hope they are a shit load better then the 1st gen calipers becasue i found a comparison and it took one of those like 40 more feet to stop then a 85 318 with drums

I just looked at some on ebay and they look pretty beastly as far a stopping power but they also look like the weigh a ton. Anyone know what size MC the rx7 uses

how about just a spacer for the e30 caliper? Sure it's only going to give a slight improvement, but bigger disks can't harm and that would be a cool budget mod, look factory and fit under 15" BBS probably.

and it seems like everyone there is angry... so unlles rs4pro3 has claimed i am in the process of machining a bracket out of alluminum to test fit the calipers which I have bought. I will post up pictures once i have the caliper in hand to give everyone piece of mind.

I decided to not sell them. there is someone on r3v producing them. I made one set for me, and if i have no problems with them i'll consider selling.

Caliper bracket for what brakes? 4 piston calipers or just a slight upgrade?

Biggest setup ive done that could be fitted to a 1st gen celica is 343x32mm rotors and Brembo 4 pistons but you could go bigger if you wanted to.

Cheers
Linden

Check out R3V, a few people have the setup. I'm waiting to get some brackets :(
