Dear all,,

can somebody give me any links about E36 318iS class II limited edition?

specially about the detail specification & tech data sheet.

I heard there only 2500 ever built, and it's difficult to find what the standard equipment from BMW.

best regards,

Hanin

Go here:

There is original sales brochure in two high resolution images if you look carefully. Also an option list for my car :)

Well, it is just ordinary everyday limited edition car :)

2500+ made in 1994 to homologate 4 door sedan with 16 valve inline 4 to FIA Class II / Supertouring rules. BMW had raced with 318is Coupe until that but 2 door bodies were outlawed for 1994 season and BMW did not have 16 valve inline 4 sedan available so they had to make a homologaton special. No idea why they did not use 320i sedan, maybe inline 6 cylinder vas too heavy?

Few years back BMW produced E90 320si for same purposes for WTCC series. Normal engines had valvetronic throttle system but it was not suitable for racing so they had to make 2500 cars with special engine :)

Basically 318is Class II is ordinary sedan but with M42 engine that was previously available only in 318is Coupe in europe, US 318i sedans had M42 all along I think? It also has better suspension (Bilsteins front and rear, normally Boge). Engine is ordinary M42, no extra power. Some BMW magazines have said that these cars are lightened but that is false, they are actually bit heavier than stock cars because of rear wing and front splitter. Oh, and cloth seats had special colour pattern :D

Most notable difference is the rear wing and front air dam and splitter. They are pretty much the same as in M3 GT produced in the same time. Class II cars came from factory with the splitter hidden under the nose and rear wing spacers put inside trunk. They are functional pieces and really affect the car's handling on high speeds, atleast in race conditions.

That's about it, really :)

yeah, I read that whole link.

I would rather have that than a US-spec e36 m3

that being said, I'm not really a big fan of the e36

Found a review of this model, although they called it the M318iS, but I believe it is the same.
