BBK with Mini Rotors.

Does anyone have any insight into this. It appears that the Mini rotors are similar to the 1990 VW Corrado G60 rotors. i.e. 4X100 bolt pattern with a center hole just a bit smaller than the E30. Corrados are 11", Mini's 10.9, and  with the John Cooper Works option, 11.5 up to 06/06 and 12" from 07/06. Cheapest price I have found is $100 Each.

The later models don;t seem to be available yet aftermarket. I'll check with the dealer on price. I think I know a place where I could get and old one for checking. This may be a step up from the Corrado/RX7 setup. There's a drawing of the rx7 bracket available on-line. I don't really need bigger brakes but the "bling" factor is bringing out the ricer in me. If ATE came out with the 12's they would be about $50.

BMW part number is 34116774986 - 4 X 100 bolt pattern, 294(11.6") X 22(.86") mm rotor. I found some pull offs that were removed from cars during complete brake jobs and will be checking them out Monday as far as offset depth. They are the same thickness as E30, Corrado, and a lot of other BMW's. If the don't work, at least there's the 11" Corrado's with RX7 4 piston calipers.

The MiniS rotor is 22mm thick and the distance from the rear of the rotor to the face of the hat is 44mm

Stock E30 measurements are 22mm and 35.1mm

the corrado rotor is the same thickness but the distance from the rear of the rotor to the face of the hat is 39.5

I have the corrado rotors on my car and if the offset were any deeper you would need a spacer between the hub and the rotor.

By the "face" of the hat, I take it you mean the inside face that fits next the hub. Have you measured the clearance with either or both rotors on the car?  Also curious as to where the interference would be. A shim could be made from an old E30 rotor but it just doesn't sound like a good idea. 4.5mm = .177" or a little less than 3/16".
It sounds like you have also considered this idea. It won't be the first time that my "big ideas" have turned out to be undoable.
Thanks for the response. For the corrados, did you machine the rotor or the hub. What calipers do you recommend. I have two BMW E29 cast iron 4 piston calipers from a 733i. I was thinking of using them but they are a bit heavy. I also saw where Wilwood is making a DynaPro with dust seals.

I just got those dimensions off Brembo.com  They have technical drawings available for most applications.

The face of the hat would be the outer face of the rotor where the wheel meets it.

The clearance problem occurs at the tie rod end.  The corrado rotors are almost touching it :eek:

I like my wilwood dynalites alot.  parts are available from the good ol boys at your local circle track shop and there are plenty of pad compounds available at great prices.

if you can get your hands on the mini rotors they might be worth a try.
