Mirror: difference in glass color?
« on: November 15, 2007, 10:11:03 AM »
I am in need of replacing my mirror as the blue is peeling off and giving it a crappy look. On Bav Auto they show the heated mirror or the unheated one with the heated being blue and the non being standard. If I have the blue ones already, should I infer that they are heated? or is the non-heated one blue as well and Bav just doesn't show it in the picture?

Is there a P/N stamped on the back of the mirror?

There is a circled E1 followed by 0017111 and then theres also 37481. Didn't see it on Real OEM or bav.
Also, don't think its heated.

I didn't think that any e30's had heated mirrors, and I have never seen or heard of an m42 with them. My mirrors aren't heated and are not blue, plus they are original, so I'd say go with those if you don't have heated mirrors.

Yes, but...

If you live anywhere where it gets cold, heated mirrors are a real benefit - no more fog or ice/snow on the mirrors.

I retrofitted heated, wide-angle mirrors in mine. They are fantastic.

Pics please!

I believe that the 325i/is that came with heated seats, also had heated mirrors...me thinks it was part of the "cold weather package."

Also, the P/N may be stamped on the BACK of the mirror.

I'll get some this weekend of mine, along with the stock mirror for comparison. FWIW, they do have a blue tint to them, but IIRC the blue tint is just an available option and doesn't necessarily mean they are heated.

I replaced both the driver's and passenger's outside mirrors with the wide-angle version, so I no longer have the "OBJECTS IN MIRROR..." crap on the lenses, either. They take some getting used to, but once you are used to them they rule. No more blind spots!

Part number listing is here, I'll get back with you on exactly what I ordered and installed.

All the mirrors are blue, heated or non-heated. If the glass is heated it has two pins on the back with wires going to them.
As dude said, the winter package included heated mirrors, heated windshield nozzels and heated driver door lock cylinder. :)

Huh, that's good to know. I may have to get some wide angle mirrors...

I may have to try to mod a heater into the door lock just because my lock is stiff to the point of not opening if it is below 25 degrees. Good thing it doesn't get that cold very often :)

Use the trunk.  I bent a couple of keys before I got remote entry.

I wish. My car doesn't have central locking. Someday I will pick up a parts car and retrofit, but all the locks are more or less fine and I only have 2 doors to lock. My car was one of the first in america I think, with a vary early 1990 build date. I think it actually came with the 2-button digital clock rather than a 6-button OBC, which appears to be a retrofit.
