I don't know how you guys are getting such good gas mileage...I just filled up yesterday, 23mpg.  And I don't leave it at 5,000 RPM all the time.

Thanks to Brad at http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/7567/ticevalleysiggv7.jpg">Shutterflick.com for editing the sig.

it does but its not accurate, full throttle shows 3-5mpg while accelerating, neutral shows 60+ mpg while coasting on the freeway and driving 70mph in 5th shows about 26.......if you can calculate all those difference in your head while driving; then ya it works. its more of a sophisticated vacuum gauge if you ask me .

It works decent if everything is in perfect working order.
When was the last time your fuel filter was changed, oil, plugs, O2 sensor, etc...

Still I find mine to not be bad. As has been said, you have to average it out.

And yes it is pretty much a vacuum gauge with some tweaks to it as far as I can tell.

I dunno, I'm getting 27 with almost no highway driving. 201k miles, magnaflow exhaust, mark d chip, basic stuff like that, so I doubt that's why. This is calculated with the trip odometer, and I don't know how accurate that is. My overall tire sive is very close to that of stock tires.

No, I have not. The car had 105K on it when we bought it 10 years ago (from a dealer) so I'm sure it had it done as they did a L2 inspection on it before we purchased it.

It does surge quite a bit at idle [esp when cold] so I'm sure a tuneup is in order. I'm thinking I might replace the AFM, plugs, wires and O2 sensor this spring.

Idle is probably the idle control valve. It is a cylinder behind the upper intake manifold and is partially hidden by the cowl. This is half the cost of a new AFM and is probably more effective. My AFM is original at 200k and has no problems, but the ICV has been replaced.

Nice, my car was bought used and it was "inspected" during this inspection they must have removed my oil sump pickup haha

sometimes, a sound is worth a thousand written words :D

the amplitude of the idle hunting is from about 650-1100RPM
the frequency is about 1Hz

better?
