Proud new owner of a 1992 318i Cabrio!

Hiya folks, just saying hello!  I found your forum after I'd already fallen in love with the car, just goes to show!

Myself and a friend just recently bought a 1992 318i Cabriolet, original dark blue.  E30 M42, so I guess I am in the right place

I only have one small photo of it atm, I'll take more once I find my camera.  

It still needs some work (it seems to be leaking an alarming amount of power steering ATF fluid), but otherwise a lovely car!

Great looking cabrio!!    Love the color.  What is the color name?  

As for your power steering leaks.. see if you can isolate where it's coming from.  You will probably go through a bag of shop rags, but try to clean up that area as best you can to see if you can detect the source(s) of the leak(s).  If it's just coming from the hoses, may not be too major.  It can be supprisingly hard to find because the radiator fan blows it all over the place.  It can also make a small leak look like a total disaster!

I found a place locally that says they can custom make high-pressure PS hoses for me using some of the stock parts, and do it pretty cheaply.  I'm going to bring mine down there when I have them off the car and see what they can do.  I'll report back as to the results.  May be a good cheap alternative to the dealer $$$ PS hoses.

Nice looking ride. And welcome to M42club!
IMHO, follow these steps:

1.remove the power steering belt and use it as a new necklace.

2. Remove the power steering pump and use it as a lawn ornament/paper weight.

3. Then cap the bottoms of the PS reservoir and use it as a new sports drink container.

4.Loop the hoses and your done!

I'm running no PS and it's fine. + no more leaks and slightly better road response!!
