This can be a fun game...

its from my 1991 318is ECU

it looks like a Siemens part.. and maybe a voltage rectifier?
 
I just wish I could find a ECU schmatic...

by the way.. the pic is taken with a 88 pin connector being on the left

yeah maybe a 3-phase rectifier. i did some searching for ya came up dry. good luck on that one.

I wonder if I have this problem?

I had the car hooked up to a power supply (puts out 14.4 volts)maybe the ps did it.

I wonder in the previous owner hooked the battery up backwards before I bought it. I bought it not running.
