E36 gauge needles?

How hard would it be to retrofit e36 lighted needles into the e30 cluster? I read somewhere that Jordan did this on his old 328is. Any tips?

They weren't lighted.  I remember there being a thread on R3v about it.

I used MZ3 needles, and they are not lit in a e30 cluster. The design of the newer clusters directs a lot of light to the clear base of the needle shaft which then travels through the needle.
