Turbo M42 saga and a general hello - 56K warning
« on: October 03, 2007, 11:04:41 PM »
Hi all.

I post over on r3vlimted along with mye28 and 2002faq, so I see some of the same E30 guys that are on r3v. I daily drive an E28 535i, and my dad and I have quite a few BMW's. So I just want to post some pictures up of my dad's car that I have helped him build (he financed it) and just tell you guys a bit about the car.

It's a 1991 318is Diamonschwarz over Black Vinyl. It has 178K miles when we got it with the blown motor (timing chain went).

Anyways, it has gotten quite a lot of money, time, and parts put into in the last 8-9 months and still isn't ready yet.

Engine & Drivetrain:

Metric Mechanic 2000 FI Engine, 8.5:1 Compression, Different Intake Cam,etc.
666Fab Tubular Exhaust Manifold
666Fab Downpipe
666Fab Sheetmetal Intake Manifold
666Fab Custom Water/Air Intercooler
A bigass Garrett Turbo
Link Engine Management
ZF 5-speed Transmission (out of an E46 328i)
M5 240mm Clutch
Single Mass Flywheel
Shortened Driveshaft
3.25LSD (from an 85 535i)

Suspension:

E36 Z3 M 5-Lug Conversion (Brakes, Trailing Arms, etc.)
E30 M3 Aluminum Control Arms
GC Coilovers with Adjustable Camber Plates
Koni SA Adjustable Shocks
(theres more, I just can't think off the top of my head)

Ok, here are some pictures I randomly selected:

Here's a link for the original build - http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=84137

Sorry for such a long post, just thought you guys might want to see this.

If you have any questions, comments, etc. I'd be happy and try to answer them for you.

Thanks man!

It shouldn't be too long. The shop that is doing to wiring still has a few things to finish up. We shall see.

See my original post for engine management, very similar to Autronic, but slightly easier to tune - http://www.linkecu.com/

I wish I was rich too. Isn't my car even though I did contribute in other ways. :D

Thanks for the compliments!

anything special about the ZF 5-speed Transmission? It bolts right up to the m42 obviously.

Plumbing wise I would go liquid to air as well. But hes running a really big turbo, so a nice big air to air would be more efficient.

isn't that stock.  i think it was just painted/powder coated and block sanded down on the raised letters.

im going to repaint mine too, and feel very inspired to go red now that i've seen how nice it looks in a e30.
