what shocks and struts do you suggest?
« on: October 02, 2007, 08:09:21 PM »
I have a 1991 318is its lowered with bav auto springs they are supposed to be a 1.25 drop but it's much lower then that. my shocks and struts and pounding on the bumps and i am thinking about what to get. i want to get the firmest shocks and struts i can get with keeping the car low. is it true that hd shocks can lift a car up a little? i was thinking about sports from bilstein. whats my options?

Shocks will not raise or lower the car, that's the springs. You will blow your stock shocks if you have lowered springs in the long run. (from what your saying they're already blown) Bilstein Sports are made for shorter springs and are very high quality. You do not need to change the strut, Bilstein Sports are inserts. Check your top plates to make sure everything is good too.

top plates? like the part that bolts onto the strut tower with the bearings? and yes i did blow them i just didn't have the $ to get all the goods at once so I'm going to start saving now for some descent shocks

and if they blow then you are screwed.  buy from a authorize bilstein dealer otherwise your lifetime warranty will be voided.

I concur, never know what's gonna happen, and if you buy a bad batch of shocks and they blow, your out the money and I doubt ur ebay person warranties them like Bilstein would. Just bite the bullet cuz it aint much more for the shipping to canada versus the other.

Check Bavauto.  Picked up a set of sports for $360 including shipping a few months ago.  I do remember they were on sale at the time and are probably a little more money now but they are a great company to deal with IMHO.
