I have talked to a few people on here about their electric fans, and i am hoping to get more input.

I want to remove my Fan Clutch, and replace that with an electric fan. (Probably the 16'' spal fan from Bimmerworld)

For all of you guys that have done this, what do i need?

and how should i wire it?

THere are two wires from the temp sensor in the radiator. They turn on the fan in front of the A/C condensor - lo or hi speed. They can also be used to close relays for the Spal fan. The power for the Spal fan is from a new 12V hot wire through the relays. The link below is for a two relay socket and wiring with relays included. You can substitute Bosch relays. This uses all OEM wiring andd sensors except for the new 12v power to the fan.

Thanks man, ill look into it. i really want it with all the auto x the car sees. after some runs i am almost past the 3/4 mark! then i open the hood and hope it cools (usually goes below center line) then do it again lol

bimmerworld also has an install kit with the relay and wiring needed.

Just a little heads up. Most Spal fans along with the majority of the aftermarket fans are manufactured in China. Look for a fan with curved blades. Straight blades are inherently inefficient and produce more noise. If you look at any OEM cooling fan today, it will have curved blades. As far as quality is concerned, I prefer a used OEM instead over most new after market fans.. I put a Volvo fan in my car but theres plenty of other good fans to be had in the JYs. Whatever fan you choose, it should be able to replace both the clutch fan and the aux fan in front of the radiator. The aux fan is a 10# weight hanging off the nose of your car. The frame is made of cast iron. Once removed you should be able to run the the new cooling fan off the existing aux fan circuit. The only other modification is to replace the temp switch in the side of the radiator with a cooler 180 degree unit from the E36.
