Author Topic: Just my luck,got my first Speeding ticket today! (Read 6291 times)

So I had just got on the freeway and accelerated up to 80. After that I didn't look at my speedo and maneuvered around a couple semis to get to my exit. I was only on the freeway for approx 2 miles. When I got to the end of the off ramp, I hear "Pull over," I look in the rear-view mirror and there was a CHP pulling up behind me.

He was like,' Do you have any idea how fast you were going?" I said I didn't. He's like, "C'mon, through me a guess." I said I wasn't looking at my speedo and needed to merge quickly to get to my exit. He said he had been following me for 2 miles. I doubt it, but I f'd up because I said that the last time I looked at my speedo I was going 80. He gave me a ticket for 90 in a 65. He saw that my D license had a different address on it and he says, "Ah nice. There's another one." He saw my messed up fender and he says, "Alright, lets see what else is wrong with your car." He went straight for the front license plate, but unfortunately for him, it was there.

So, right before he let's me go he says, " I added a little point there that you were making some unsafe lane changes. And if you try to fight me in court, I will change this from a speeding ticket to wreckless driving." Can he change a citation he has already issued? Well, there ya go folks. Just wanted to share another beautiful experience with y'all.

Call a traffic ticket lawyer.

Seriously. They can plead it way down.

I doubt he can ramp up the charge simply because you fought it, but I would mention that to the lawyer.

If you are worried about the legal fees, they will be less than the ticket, and far less than the ticket and raise in your insurance.

Yeah, red BMW=easy target! Oh well. Regarding the amount, I don't know. Generally the way it works in CA, is that you get the classic yellow carbon copy ticket. Then they send you a second one in the mail with court info and the fine amount. Anyone get a ticket for this speed? How much was it?

I'm estimating $250 to $300 for the ticket. You're telling me that a lwayer is cheaper than that? I know that if I attend traffic school, I will not get any points, and no rise in insurance costs.

There are 2 moing violations, plus a that much over the limit, the cop could have arrested him. I am not sure if they will allow traffic school. I am sure the total will be over $300.

As for cost, if you can go to school, then yes that will be cheaper. I still say talk to a lawyer as they can tell you if you evenqualify, odds are you can get that much advice free.

If you cannot get school, then the lawyer will probably be only $300. For the money he can probably plead it down to an unsafe lane change or maybe even a non moving violation. He did put 90 on the ticket, so he already did you somewhat of a favor.

Here is the thing though, if you try for school and they say no, you are screwed, $300? Wrong, add how much your insurance will go up for the next 3-5 years.

I would at least consult a lawyer and see what you can do.

i've been to traffic driving school for both VA and NC to knock points. i haven't had any speeding tickets that hardcore but i've had 3. i got one for running a red light (total accident when i first moved to DC) last December on C'mas eve eve. i got one a couple weeks ago for violating the HOV lane law (didn't realize it had just turned 4:30). i've also had one for failure to change address on driver's license, but that got dropped in court. then i have 2 failure to maintain controll of vehicle for a couple of accidents i got in the mountains in snow and a rain storm. then i've gotten pulled over about five other times for cop BS but got no tickets b/c they were full of crap. i hate VA cops! when i move back to NC i am getting a V1 pig sniffer and hard wiring the thing.

HAHAHA! I have never heard anyone refer to a V1 like that.

You know, I really don't understand why cops have to be such ass holes. This particular cop and as a matter of fact, every highway patrol that has pulled me over, has been EXTREMELY immature and cocky. Why not be proffesional, state the situation and avoid the rudeness!!!

i had a state cop pull me over one time who was like a hard core serious a hole chasing down tuners. he was wearing driving gloves. he tried to tell me that my aftermarket muffler wsn't supposed to "sound like that" and that it had an exhaust leak. i told him there was no leak and he could get under there and feel around if he wanted to say otherwise, so he left it alone. then he tried to tell me that my windows were tinted to 30% when they are really tinted to 35%, which is the legal limit, and I have never heard of such a thing as a 30% tint. he used some wierd device but it was at night so i think it didn't work right, but assured me that "this machine is calibrated every day." Whatever, he basically just wasted 15mins and let me go b/c he had nothing to write me a ticket for. what a loser

dont mess with reckless driving. Some power trip cop made up a bunch of shit on the police report (similar to the unsafe lane changes except i never changed lanes). Now i have to prove to a jury that hes lieing to save my ass from several days in jail, fines, and loosing my license for 90 days
