Chain Tensioner

Hi guys, i've been lurking around this forum for a while now (i'm a member of E30zone as i'm from the UK), finally decided to register!

Bought my iS about 3/4 months ago, and the timing chain rattles more distinctly between 3-4000 RPM, unfortunately it was minor rattle when i bought the car, and now it is slighly worse after doing 1000miles.

The previous owner replaced the chain tensioner about 4 years ago (not sure at what mileage), I will replace it again, but do you guys think this will work? Or will I have to do the guide rails? What do you suggest?

Regards
Ajay

how many miles on your car?
Have you changed type and thickness of oil since you've bought it ?
I have a 194K miles on my car and it's never had a timing chain change.I've changed out the tensioner and run 15-50 mobil one .
These motors do make their share of noise .Can you listen to a friends M42 to compare .
Changing out the tensioner is quick and easy and if it's the chain then you'll need a new tensioner anyway so changing the tensioner won't hurt and is the first step.
good luck

my cars sitting on 116k at the moment. Since I've bought the car I haven't changed the oil, but i will be doing so very soon, as with the coolant etc. Flush and drain the engine out properly.

I want to make this engine as silent as possible.
