Power Commander III wired to a MAP
« on: September 05, 2007, 02:08:57 AM »
Hi, I'm working on my turbo build...
I have a Power Commander III, that usually is wired to TPS(good on NA, SC), but with turbo I will wire it to a map.

It's a good idea use MAP and not throttle body?

thank you

I would use both if possible. Works better with turbo applications. I have had great results with AFM Link box.

I know that there are other products, but I have the PCIII from a precedent supercharger build, so I want to use it:D
I have a innovate lc-1 so I'll report results in a few weeks. I need to find a MAP

Don't know how you are going to make it, but seems to me PC III is designed for bikes?

I need to find a MAP

MAP sensors can be found from several vechiles. Don't know where you live, but i suppose they can be found from local parts dealer easily. I suggested to buy a sensor which can handle at least 3.0 bar. I have used 2,5 bar sensor and it was good enough for 360 hp.

That PCIII seems to be interesting idea, have to study it  bit closer.

Italy:D
I checked on ebay.de, ebay.co.uk, and ebay.it and there are used MAPs for cheap:rolleyes:

I start to think that will be a huge work to create maps for MAP with powercommander, and without a dyno :D

I suppose a suitable MAP sensor can be found from Opel Vectra (B-series) quite chap even if you buy a new one.

Update from death...
PC3 can easily work with a MAP sensor, the only thing is that you have to configure it in its software.
As I'm here I want to say to all people that is thinking about fitting a PCIII that there will not be possibility to control ignition timing.

Today I chatted with Dynojet staff asking them if their ignition modules works on our cars, showing them the S.Fogg write up.
In the end we figured that the ignition modules are coupled with a power commander for the same bike, otherwise it will not work, so a suzuki 1000 ignition module works only with a suzuki 1000 PC3, and so on.
Then suzuki gsx-r 1000 (we can use PCIII from that bike) use a 24-2 toothed crank wheel, and our is 60-2, so it will not work, and dynojet will not change it for us because there isn't such a market.
Another thing is that wiring a PC3 to a car will void the warranty. (but they can't see if it's happened :) )
There is NO WAY to expand Power Commander III to control ignition timing.

SO UNLESS YOU'RE AIMING FOR LOW-MID BOOST ON SUPERCHARGER, STAY AWAY FROM POWER COMMANDER, EVEN MORE IF YOU'RE USING A TURBOCHARGER, WHERE IT'S EASY TO RAISE THE BOOST AND MAKE DAMAGES.

Ignition timing is fundamental when over 8psi of boost, for a long and safe life of your engine.

Hope that this message will be useful.
bye
