Turn signal cancellation
« on: August 25, 2007, 03:40:28 PM »
Bought the car a month ago, steering wheel is bent (literally) and is situated as though the car is veering right even as I travel perfectly straight.  So, took the wheel off last night and repositioned it.

On the rear of the hub is a steel protrusion designed to make contact with a small white plastic protrusion for the purpose of cancelling a turn signal when the wheel unwinds.

Where are these parts positioned with relation to one another?  Does the black steel tab on the hub go inside, above or below the white plastic tab?  It woud appear as though they occupy the same space.  I'm certain my steering wheel is installed incorrectly, as I can only cancel my signals manually.

Anyone reinstall a steering wheel correctly, and can shed some light on this?

If the turn signal is in the off (center) position, the plastic nub is retracted and the steel arm fits in there. When you turn on your turn signal, left or right, it pushes that nub out, and then the arm swipes across and releases it. I think. I do know that if you accidentally put the turn signal on, left or right, then put the steering wheel on, you will break it off and have to manually cancel your turn signals from then on.

Thanks for your response, ak.  The difficuly I am having, is that, with the turn signal centered, the little white plastic piece is NOT retracted.  But I've not broken it off yet, so my optimism remains.  I'll play with it more later today.
