I know this topic has been covered several times, I just finished my COP and I am wondering how many out there are running with the conversion and maybe we can share our list of parts we used for others to do their own. The last time I read the conversion it took a lot of machining which I did not have to do did some welding of sever "flat" stock steel together and drilled acouple of holes. So who ever is running with COP can we compare parts usage and result. My car runs great with the conversion and the engine bay looks great, will take photos tomorrow and post the result. The one thing I am curious about is: which coil did you use and for what model car did they come from?

I am running mine still. Actually, I just decided to do another batch of the plates recently.

Which BMW those coil came from. The one I used came from a 740 which make the coil abit bigger.

I want, but SpecE30 doesn't necessarily allow it...

I have been using the a bmwman91 made plate with coils from a 1999-2002 E36 6 cylinder. The same coils are used on a number of different BMW's. If you check BMAParts.com The WorldPac number is BMW046783. Same coil on a 740.

Spec E30 rules do not specifically address this other than requiring the same ECU. Under ignition, etc. it says spark plugs and wires may be replaced. Usually a series will allow something not specifically addressed if it does not result in a performance advantage but, ultimately, the series has the final say.

I decided to attempt the conversion my way with parts I thought would work for my madness. The following photos are the result, take note of the different part number for the coil I used.

Sorry about the photos, what I took are too big to transfer I'll try again, but from what I see these coil are much easier to install and smaller than what I used. Is there a difference in voltage output from coil used on a V8 and those used on a 6 cylinder? I noticed after I finished my conversion my car seem to idle more stable and the transition when the a/c is turn on is smoother or is it my imagination.
