The website claims that they can be installed to flow in either direction.  I'm also looking at a similar muffler for my 07' wrx so if I'm wrong I'd like to know.

can you explain what a resonater is and where I can get it? I like E46 M3 sound :p

I just went to a local exhaust shop and asked for a cheap resonator, and they threw it on.  I believe a resonator is like a rasp eliminator, or extremely low restriction muffler

If anyone's interested, I have a knock-off of that muffler sitting in my basement, I used it for a couple days and took it off. Without a resonator, the sounds was brutal! $25 shipped.

Okay forgive me if I missed some of the reply to this thread and I am repeating some.  First off I just spent all day installing a Dynomax muffler on my E30 a 1984 318i I know it's not a M42 but I will get to the M42.  I took 2 1/2" pipe and installed it just pass where the two flange are bolted together straight back to the Dynomax muffler super turbo 17733 is the part number.  This car sounds great no "ricer" sound.  Oh yeah here is the M42 story I did the same thing to my 1991 318is except I took the "cat" and the "resinator" out and installed different Dynomax muffler I beleived this might be the one in question because this has a body similar to a "flowmaster".  Man did I make a mistake  my car sounded like a "Ricer" till I had my daughter drove it to the specified rpm before changing gear and followed her with my Boxster that day was the worst day of my car loving days.  It sounded like a Ricer alright.  I fixed it by getting a high flow cat 4" in dia and 12.5" long and a 4" dia 12" long resinator talk about a nice sounding car.  So I advice anyone not to eliminate the resinator or the cat from the your system unless you like the Ricer sound.  I believed this is where I can get a "honda" if you like the Ricer sound. That's my 2 cents.

funny, I had the exact same experience. Had a dynomax on my m10 318 with gutted cat, and it was surprising quiet. Put the similar muffler on the m42, just like you, with no cat and no resonator and it's a whole different mess of loud. :(
