Has anyone done this with a '92 318ic?  Just curious if the same coding plug works.

Should work, same engine means the same plug. The body doesn't really matter.

Is it me or are these OBC's utterly useless?

The temp gauge may be vaguely useful but I think the MPG, Range, Remaining Fuel and Average Speed are way off.

And I have calibrated mine.
