Euro city lights connector??
« on: July 26, 2007, 09:05:10 AM »
So, I have been able to find every single part number for connectors, adjusters, bushings, etc... for a set of Euro Ellipsoids I just got, but for the life of me can't find the part # for the city light connectors!!  Anybody know this part number?  I also read, think it was from our DIY write up actually, that the male foglight connector is the same.  So either part number would work I think.

I've heard them called a couple of different terms, mostly city lights though as I put in the post.  I've also heard them called daytime running lights and I guess parking lights would work too.  Like I said though, the standard here on R3V, e30tech, etc... is "city lights" from what I've seen.

This is off a vendor site, so let's just say that we're both correct ;)

"Low beam has city light that illuminates when your parking lights are turned on."

There was a great photo on R3V I saw that showed that harness, but of course I can't find it now.  Went 12 pages deep into the lighting section, but alas, I have to get to work hehe.  There should be a seperate wiring harness with a female connector that runs from the top of the lows and attaches to the headlight buckets.  The female connector is actually on a ball joint and moves around!  woohoo!  It's a pretty beefy wire so it should be hard to miss.

I think I'm just going to splice this connection if I dec to hook them up, or maybe wait till I get to a yard to pull a male fog connector.  The yards around here are super picked over though when it comes to E30s. Nobody seems to be able to find the part # for the $1.50 connector, including Patrick...  It's one of those things I'll probably use once a year tops, but I hate to leave a job unfinished.  Damn OCD!

That's parking light here in Europe. When you pull light switch to 1st position, parking lights will turn on (also rear lights). Second position will turn your headlights on. If you do not have this kind of light switch, i suppose it will be diffult to make it like OEM style. If you need this kind of light switch i can help you to get one (used). Will take some US spec parts as trade.

Is US spec light switch similar as Euro version? So when you pull the switch once, the "city lights / parkinkg lights" lite up. Pull to the second position and your head lights will turn on. Also dashbord lights dimmer is located there ? Euro models does not have those side markers as US models have and also front blinkers are just blinkers they are not connected like US models have. When you pull the light switch once, does those front blinkers light up, or does also head lights turn on as well?

If this light switch is different than what we have, i have a extra Euro switch, which i would like to change to US spec parts.

All of the connectors are the same with the exception of the square corner on the plug. If you take an exacto knife and cut down the side removing that square corner they all fit. I used 535i parking light plugs for mine because they were cheap at the salvage yard. With crimp on spade ends the other end plugs into the US sealed beam plugs.
