performance chips, who's got'em/comparison
« on: April 14, 2006, 06:10:28 PM »
so who's got what brand and what are the claims of increased hp and torque?
I ask this b/c I have TMS chip claims:
+12 hp
+15torque

But I just checked out the ebay chips and the 318i/is chip claims
+22hp
+20torque
for a small fraction of $250 I paid for TMS's chip. could this be possible? if so, then i might have to try one....

So what is everyone else using?

wahoo i have the ebay one! i didn't really notice a difference other then the change in the rev limiter with the chip..i'v wanted to drop in a different one just to compare, but i don't know anyone who wants to, nor have i asked but it would be interesting to do in just 1 car, swap the chips arround... but the "claimed" gains will not be as good as the high $ chips you see, i'd say 5hp max.

Oh the shame: I have an ebay chip also... bottom line: if it really put out 22 more hp, I would have bought two!

I still have the rev limit... and, um... the butt dyno is registering some gains.... it does work.

the one thing I definitely notice/hallucinate is that the low-end throttle response feels a little better. but all in all... I'm saving up for a Mark D. chip.

The chip is going to have to get me by until I can figure out exactly what I wanna do re the computer and airflow metering etc.

I talked to mark on thursday --very cool guy-- and he's going to try to get me in the ballpark (well, stadium parking lot) of where I need to be... we'll email a little back and forth I guess as the engine comes together...

it's sort of like asking a fortune teller for resume advice.

I got ebay as well. Got it from 2002maniac a month or so ago. Definately shows a gain but definately not 22 hp. That would be a very tall order from any chip for that much power.

yes, but if you already have the Conforti chip, the Mark D will be almost the same.

i e-mailed mark D w/ no success yet, but i was inquiring on a chip that might make my car run even better when i put the LW Alum. FW on. maybe a little bit higher idle like a hot chip or something. anyone no of any other options that would complement the light weight flywheel as far as chips go or anything else?

I've got both the JimC and an ebay chip that is a dinan replica. Both chips are definately an improvement but decided to stick with the JimC since the day after I put the ebay chip in, one of my ignition coils went. Anyone wanna buy my ebay chip?
