Water temp ?
« on: July 22, 2007, 12:34:58 AM »
For those of you who have aftermarker water temp gauges, what temp do you normally run at? I just put one in and mine is sticking right around 210 F. That seems high to me, but I have never owned a 318is before.

210 seems to corilate to the middle tick mark on the stock dash temp gauge, is that right also?

Thanks.

Autometer short sweep, bought from Summit.

Wherever you installed the temp sensor, it needs to be grounded. Don't ground the sensor directly.

stock tstat is set for 190F, so either the tstat is a little off or your gauge is. 210 isn't "too hot" for an engine by any means though, so I wouldn't be too worried.

this is good to know b/c I am prob going to be buying an autometer shortsweep soon.  I am planning on replacing the one in the cluster for this one.  We'll see how it goes I guess.

I did not install mine in the head as you say you are going to. Mine is on a seperate adapter away from the head, which is why I had to ground the adapter that the sensor is installed in. If you have the sensor installed in the head you will not have to worry about grounding anything, of course.
