Replacing Fan Clutch Problem!

Hello everyone!  My names Esy and i live in Wash, DC.  I would like to say that this is my first and foremost question post.  I hope that I will meet some cool e30 peoples on this forum and have fun talking about the m42.  I just purchased a 91' 318 recently, and will post up pictures and specs soon!  I put a full picture on this as a teaser, but promise will bring more...

NOW.. to the question:confused:

I was trying to remove the fan clutch, but it seems like theres a trick to it.  Are there any creative ways that I can remove the fan clutch? Thank you.

There left hand threads and there are tools to take them off but all I use is a Hammer and a punch works every time. .

mine was a bit difficult to remove but it should take is one quick hit and it should come loose.  It helped to hold the belt that wraps around that pulley while doing cause it usually wants to spin around.  Just use a nice long 32mm wrench!!

Thanks!  I'm going to give that a try when I get some more time, Im' work 7 days a week and only get 1-2 hours to fiddle with it.  I just hope I can get my hands on a 32 mm wrench :cool:

You can use an adjustable monkey wrench or go to a bicycle repair shop for the thin 32mm wrench.

I have always been able to get them off with monkey wrenches

I used channel locks on the left-threaded bolts and another channel lock on the base of the black water pump pulley. not a lot of real estate down there, but it works. Did the same thing to put it all back together.

This is trickier than I had anticipated :rolleyes:  I'm going to try out your techniques tomorrow.   I guess its true what they say, you can't do a  job right unless you have the right tools (-and old bavarian proverb)  Thanks all!
