I am in the middle of building a 3.0L turbo engine for my Porsche 951. I also plan to powdercoat some parts. I have already had some parts yellow passived in the way they were when car left factory. Most of these parts were dirty, dull and looked more greyish than nice golden/yellow they should look. I clean then first with citric acid from all the dirt and grease. After that i had them yellow passived.

WOWOWOWOWOW!!!! After spending some time at work, I've finally read Your posts... And I find that You are doing great with old owen!!!

GREAT WORK WITH THIS POWDERCOATING!!!!

I've spent some time in my local library and I've found domestic machines used to make Your parts covered with gold, Zn, Cu or any other metal that is normally used to cover metal pieces :-)

So guys, I've got idea of home made sandblaster, Tim has his domestic powder coater

Let's do galvanizing machine... Anyone interested? I can fabricate how to do instructions...

yes i know what you mean. But i only paid 40€ when plating shop did it for me, so i didn't bother to make it at home. I have anoized lots of motrocycle aluminium parts when i was young. It is also quite easy thing to do.
I already have all power tools at home, including, sandblaster cabinet. I prefer cleaning parts from rust using citric acid, because i am lazy. Just put all dirty/rusty parts to citric acid bath in the night. Remove them from the bath next morning, rinse with warm water and you are done. Easy and very clean way to prepare parts for paiting/powder coating/plating etc. Citric acid is also safe for environment, most likely everybody of us eat/drink it on daily basis.

Ose: Yeah I realize, that I'm pretty lazy too, so :-) I'll try citric acid next time I will have to remove rust from my car part :-) :-)

How much citric acid You give to 10l of water? Citric acid can be bought at our local foodstore right?

Anyway -> this seems the best method I've ever heard of... My friend uses some serious acids, but I didn't like that kind of bath because od environment and high health risk... It takes several minutes, but when it comes to derusting - I can wait even two or more nights :-)

I bought 5KG of citric acid from a local farminig equipement store. It is ment to cure pig's which has sore stomage.... 5KG cost about 20€. 10L takes 1-2DL citric acid. When parts has been cleaned you can serve used citric acid/water to your friends as lemon soda

Lemon soda... Hahaha - It's just like baking cake just after powder coating in tim's oven :-)
