I have finally swapped out the gears from the starters and I have the flywheel.

I will be ordering the 323i TOB but I can't find the shorter M20 flywheel bolts anywhere on realoem!

I know i need the shorter ones, but they only have the diagram of the dual-mass flywheel which has the longer bolts.

Anyone have that P/N??

then i make my conversion with 320i m20 flywheel i coudn't find the right bols in the dealer so i cut mine to 2.5cm in the local machine shop

I'm probably going to end up going this route as well...but I'd really like to get the factory bolts.

So far I haven't been able to track down the right P/N

I've even tried the E30 323i's as well as the E21 323i's and both show the same twin mass flywheel bolts.

These are 28's. I think the M42's are 50 mm. Not sure. realoem shows dual mass for everything.

Well, first you need both starters (m20 and m42).

First and foremost, LABEL the starters so that you don't mix anything up.

There's two 8mm (i think) nuts that hold the major portion of the starter together.

After you've taken those off, you have to remove 3 Phillips screws that hold in the actuator fork for the gear. After you've completed that, there's a circlip that hold the gear from sliding out. You must heat this part up and then get like a 13mm deep socket and pound down the metal ring so that you can take the ring off.

Repeat the same process for the other starter.

Swap the gear from the m20 and slide it onto the m42 piece.

Just work backwards and you should be fine.

I wish I had taken pics, but I can snap some of pics of the assembly if you'd like.
