What tires are you guys running?
« on: April 08, 2006, 11:29:17 AM »
So I thought I might start a thread where people can describe what tires they are using W/ a brief description.....size, treadwear, traction rating. And give a short sentence or two on the performance of their tires.

I just bought some Michelin pilot exalto A/S tires size 205/60R15, they have a treadwear of 400, and traction at A. I havent really had the chance to try them on dry roads yet but the are EXTREMLY quite!! They grip quite well in the rain.

I was previously running Continetal Conti sport contact tires (from previous owner), excellent tires, i think they come stock on the new 3 series bimmers but im not sure. They had a treadwear of 380 and traction A. They grip very well in on dry roads, they lasted a VERY long time considering the way i drive (18 mo), they were ok in the rain, and sucked in the snow. I would have boughty another pair of these but they do not handle well in the snow.

14" Basketweaves
205/60 Falken Azenis Sports

These were on the last car.  AMAZING performance, $55/corner, but they wear out quick.  They are rated as dry conditions only, but they were fine in the rain if you drove with some common sense.  I heard they stopped producing them and came out with somethign else similar, cannot remember what they were now called.

!4" weaves with Yokohama AVS ES100's 205/60-14.
17" BBS knockoffs with General Exclaim HP's 215/40-17

The 17's are a rougher ride due to the low sidewall but turn in is a lot quicker due to less sidewall flex and scrub. The 17's are XL rated. I like them both. First Generals I have ever owned.

BF Goodrich G-force sports - 215/50/15
treadwear rating is around 340
A traction rated
V or Z speed rating (woo hoo!!!)

$75 each at tire rack... so far, they are an excellent tire, relatively quiet too. Going from 65's to 50's has really improved handling, as if!

Previously, I had Yokohama Avids 195/65/14 ...for the price (bought on special) they are great for daily driver type situations.

15in weaves
Toyo TPG - 205/50-15.

these were pretty much a bargain, A$140 per corner. front wear seems to be good, but inner rear is excessive. however that is to be expected, with big camber, plus autoX, track and hard hills abuse.

i really like these tyres, especially for the price. wet grip isn't the best, but is fine.

anyone running 225s?

I am, 225/50 Falken Ziex's on my 15" BBS knock offs. Nothing to complain about especially for their pricetag.

225-50-15  Falken Ziex 512 on 15x7 Kosei K1s. Very good "value" street tire that you can have fun with as they heat up fast. I used em for auto-x last season :p

205-50-15 Falken Azenis RT 615 on 15x7 BBS RZs. Love em :D

215-40-17 Wanli on 17x8/17x9 Style 5s. The most useless tire ever made but serves it's purpose.

I was running 225/50/15 Falken 512's on my 15x7 kosei's.  Unfortunately I bent 2 of them in an accident and they are NLA.  Right now I have 205/50/15 Azenis on some cheap ricer wheels.  Got the whole setup for $300 on ebay.  Tires had 75% tread.

15 inch Borbet type H wheels and some  Cooper Zeon tires in 205/55r15
Awesome tires, their great in dry(rarely get my car sideways in any situation) and even handle snow better than most of my friend's pickups w/ a little care and even work in ice. Follow road really well, almost too well but they are awesome tires because of that for me, can feel the road better than most tires.

Falken 512s 195/65/14 on Stock weaves. Grip great in the wet, best I've found so far, dry just as good. Don't like how the side walls look bloated though.

Dunlop fm901s 205/55/15 on the euro weaves. They're ok, not great in the rain and in the dry, well they're just ok. They look good though, haha.

Looking at Toyo Proxes 4s for the fall or the falken 512s again. Anyone have the Proxes 4 and what are your opinions? I need all-seasons.

Ok i have an update on the michelin pilot's since ive had a chance to drive on them. handling is great! noise is very quite! they are a bit heavy but i assume that they will lighten up as they wear, they do give a sound of protest if i push them to hard wich i do not like. i like quite tires......so far I highly recomend these tires!

Also i notice alot of people running falken's. i had them on my M10 (the ziexes and the ziek's) they handled well for me, but they didnt last long. They where also a great value for the amount of traction you get from them.
