Bore and stroked M42
« on: May 02, 2007, 11:53:27 AM »
Just checking the details for a bore and stroke job in terms of what is needed as I'm getting a bottom end tapping/chirping from my car and guess it will need an overhaul at some stage:

1. M47 crank (any particular version???)
2. M44 con-rods
3. E36 M3 (is that the Euro or US version, opr does it matter?)
4. Main, big and small bearings for the above

Does the head need skiming? How much has to be shaved from the pistons?

Where is the best source for these (I'm in Ireland).

Ta.

I would pm tim_s here or check his thread:
http://m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328

The BMW M47 crank is what I used in my build-up; the rover M47 crank, I've heard won't work (someone should confirm this)
the stroke is 88mm; I bored out to right appropriate

I also used custom rods and pistons, but the original recipe from gizmo318i at bimmerforums is here:

this is a long thread, but enjoyable...
