I was wondering what kind of power are the turbo people putting down? Anyone have an estimate of their 0-60 time? I know that the reason for getting a 318 is not for the straight line acceleration, but does anyone know how a turbocharged m42 would stand against an e36 325 or an e46 330ci for comparison?

anywhere from 4-7 seconds

. It really depends on how much work is done to the motor and how much boost you are running.

A lot of it also depends on gearing, some guys like peaky power while others like broader powerbands. Still, if anyone had numbers I wouldn't shy from looking.

Well 4 seconds would definitely be impressive... I would think that would take a disturbingly high amount of boost?

Would a 4.1 LSD and a Lightened Flywheel alone bring a 318 into E36 325 territory? (0-60 in the low 7's)

in my baby, (heavier than you E30's) i can get around 8 all the time, but i now have fairly modified head, M3 ITB's aftermarket ECU, 3.64:1 40%/25% LSD, and i have lost alot more weight from her, just waiting on the carbon bonnet and fiberglass bootlid now

once she's working again i'll have to do some more 0-60 times, cos when i did it before it was partly stripped out, and had nothing done to engine apart from a different filter, so i thort 8 secs was pretty good considering the book says 10.2 i think

Back in the day there were a few road tests that found the E30 318iS to run between 9.5 and 10 seconds, with a lighter flywheel and some boost I can see it getting quite a bit lower. By the way, guys with lightened flywheels or m20 flywheels, how significant is the change?

With stock setup and short shifter we are able to get it below 8,5 secs...

But it is possible to make 1/4 mile in less than 12 secs...

So it means reaching 200km/h (125mph) sooner than 11 secs...

0-60mph is somewhere about 4 secs then... But it needs about 400hp's to be done and a good grip...

I timed my E30 318i with E36 M42B18 with lightened flywheel and 4.10 rear diff with Gtech Pro.. managed an average of 8.6sec for 0-60mph... don't think simple mods can make it go down to low 7's...

Low 7 needs short shifter and something about +50 HP's... It's not that easy to be done ;-)

I'm dinan chipped, Z4 3.0 shifter lever, 4.10 LSD,,, I timed it with my cell phone the other day, 8.3 seconds, with about .30 seconds of operator error lol,, so say even if it was more like .5 seconds error,, that's still around 8.8,, which ain't bad for what i've spent, and still N/A

Just curious, how many people have actually turbocharged their car? It seems that everyone who starts a buildup does not finish it for some reason or another...

yea, there are only two or three people whom I can ramamber have completed the turbo with good results, but unfortunately I can't remember the names. IMO the supercharger or MetricMechanic motor swap is the best way to go for power and reliability. Also, there was someone over on bf.c who did an S42 replica, but I cn't remember that name either

i was under the impresion that our cars have a 4.10 diff stock, also a short throw shifter does not improve 0-60 times in my opinion, maybe if you suck at shifting it does. and as for it beating an 325i, i have always seen our car kick ass off the line compared to a 325 maybe due to the gearing in our cars, or maybe im just really good at launching:p . im gonna go with the gearing.....
