Howdy!
I just joined the group.  I've always liked the e30 and looked at a couple before I bought my e28, but never found a good one.  Lately I've been feeling the urge to get one again for no specific reason.
I looked at a 318is yesterday that was pretty much beat to $#!*.  I don't think I could have bought it cheap enough to make it "worth it".  The only way I'd get rid of my 535i is if I could be sure that the new car would be just as reliable.  That's why I might consider trading someone for an e30 of equal value.  I figure my car is worth about $3000-3500 after I fix a couple small things.
I'm attracted to the M42 powered cars because I really only use my car to commute and would like to get better mileage.  And the only time I have people in the back seat are if we take my car out to lunch, so I can get away with something smaller.
I have a couple questions, just to make sure that the e30 doesn't have the same things that kind of bother me on my e28.  Are the brakes boosted by vacuum?  The e28 gets it's additional force from the power steering.  And does the AC operate through all the vents (defroster/dash/feet)?

Anyway here's a pic:

A/C does can blow from all the vents depends on your preference. I ~believe~ most a/c units are r12 and there's an r134 kit available but of course isn't cheap.

As for brakes I don't think they are boosted by vacuum because my power steering has been shot for awhile. Edit: he answered it for you \/

Yes the E30, like most cars, uses the vacuum from the intake manifold to boost the brakes.
