Strut mounts vs. ball joints. How to tell?

How can you tell which one is worn? When I hit bumps, the front rattles. Feels like it's down low where the control arm is. The car has been on H&R race/Bilstein sports for a year and 2 months ago I replaced the CABs with M3 ones.

Lift the front of the car from the body/frame, not from the suspension. Grab the bottom section of the tire and quickly push back and forth. If it feels like there is a lot of play then you need ball joints.
