Wheel Question...Lugs that is.

I am looking for wheels. It is really hard to find something that I like. So, I am wondering about the "filling in the lug holes and redrilling" thing.

What do you guys think about it? How much does it cost? What kind of shops would be able to do it?

so you want to drill new holes in your hub and go 5 lug?  Might be better off doing a 5 lug swap but thats going to cost you.

Well I can find you things that you ~may~ like BUT it's going to be pricey either way... 5 lug swap or some nice 4x100 rims.

I wouldn't bother going 5 lug unless you are after bigger brakes AND wheels. and having a 318is I don't think there's a need for bigger brakes.

Yes you are...I am pretty sure there are other ways without breaking the bank and it being safe.

Oooohh...that's a cool idea. I was thinking of filling in the lug holes in the 5 lug wheel and redrilling to four lug, though.

If money wouldn't be an issue I wouldn't be trying to find other ways of getting the rims I want. I also don't like rims bigger than 16inch on any 318is. I really do like the Jlinewheels but they are too expensive. Remember, I am a poor college student.

Now, I am serious about it. If it is too expensive then I won't consider it but it should be a simple task with the pros.

Also...those who are against it; what is so bad about it?

A friend had this "professionally done" for is old civic. He ended up going aroound a corner aggressively and the rim cracked at the welds and he lost a wheel and left the road. I don't think the job was really done that well, though. So long as the lug holes are welded VERY well, you might get away with it. I personally wouldn't put my car on wheels modified in that way.

BBS makes nice 4X100 wheels, my favorites are RG-F's

Thanks for discouraging me...I still think it can be done...Ill just have to ask around shops.

I am very picky with rims on any car especially E30. Rims make or break the E30. None of the new BBS wheels look good on E30s and they're expensive. I also like a nice lip for our cars and those are hard to come by. Once again, I am a poor college student so it makes it harder.

Redrilling I imagine wouldn't be cost effective and safe.

When purchasing wheels remember to factor in the cost of tires. Having said that, what's your budget?

Yea if you can't afford a good set of rims just wait till you can. Or do some other mods.

Some fit but most have the higher offset and some have smaller hub bores less than 57.1mm.

Either way, you're looking at additional cost/pain of using spacers, longer bolts, and hubcentric spacers with most Civic rims.

I looked it over and listened to you guys. The whole "redrilling" idea is not so great. Ill just wait for funds and try to get something I really like and want.
