i have no resonator and it does not sound that loud.. when the engine is cold, the exhaust sounds a bit raspy, but once it warms up it sounds smooth and clean. i am not a fan of big loud exhausts (unless you have a muscle car of course, but thats another topic) and this exhaust is just right for the price.

if you cant make up yoru mind about the resonator, i suggest just leaving it on and if you want it louder, cut it off later...

edit: just reread some of the latter posts, the cat definitely adds some noise reduction. ive been catless with this dynomax and it is pretty raspy all thoughout the rpm range. too ricey for me. if i had cams and some other internals it might be worth it to go catless, but for now this is fine.. no resonator ftw!!!

Here's a clip of mine. And yes, you can hear the music inside just fine with windows closed. No droning on highway either. Overall, for 30$, I'm very satisfied.

I searched on youtube and all of the sounds I heard were incredibly raspy and had the high pich to them. I know each type of engine has its own sound but mt miata had a great sound to it with a jackson racing exhaust. I should have kept it and cut it up to put on the 318is.
My wife's protege5 with racing beat sounds very subtle too.
Now I'm rethinking this whole exhaust thing. I think I'd better go to a meet and hear some options first.

I have a Magnaflow cat and Dynomax Super turbo on my car and it sounds like that video at first, but once the exhaust starts to warm up the muffler the tinny sound goes away. I think it has something to do with the Super Turbo having fiberglass packing.

I think I'll look at the dynomax offerings becaue the super turbo is very small, a longer muffler body with all other elements being the same will usually sound better. It will be able to "muffle" more... duh

magnaflow is one of the best sounding mufflers for our car. as for the dynomax, i got a couple vids (which i will upload soon) but it did get pretty raspy. i recently got an aftermarket resonator put in and my exhaust sounds FANTASTIC. its exactly what i want. it has a nice subtle yet deep tone to it with out tha unwanted rattle. it makes the car sound more like a bimmer and less like a 4banger. i finally got the tone i want, but i am still looking forward to a magnaflow in the future

Which magnaflow muffler is the best specifically? I was looking at one that looked very close to stock at the muffler shop.. Could probably still use the stock mounts with it,, BUT if it sounds like crap, and someone knows which one does sound, like AL said, more like a bimmer and less like a 4banger, that's what I'm after!!

finally... (sorry it took so long)

got a short vid of my old exhaust.. dynomax muffler with stock cat and no resonator

that doesnt sound too bad but i got tired of that raspy high pitched sound..

i had a resonator put on and now my exhaust is actually LOUDER but juss deeper and more subtle. i actually set off quite a bit of car alarms now with the resonator put on.. heres a clip

that last clip was right after i got it put on.. its been broken in a bit more and sounds cleaner.. hopefully i can get more vids up soon..

After listening to all the soundclips on this site, I think I'll be going the route of Magnaflow. AL Greenery, thanks for the clips of the Dynomax. There's a bit of a raspy, tinny sound to that muffler which I don't hear on the magnaflow clips - definitely don't want to have that.

wow old thread. actually the second clip is of my exhaust with a brand new resonator. sounds much cleaner now without any rasp/tinny sound. but i would like to upgrade to magnaflow as well. either way KEEP the resonator!
