Will the 19# bosch injectors with the quad spray pattern work in a stock M42 or do you need a chip ?

They WILL work, but not well.  They are rated at 19# on the Ford's 2.5BAR fuel system, but will flow 22.5# on out 3BAR system.  There is a common misconception (I used to fall for as well) that the M42 uses 14.4# or 17# injectors.  This is WRONG.  The M42 uses 20.4# injectors.  Going to "19#" units would wreck mileage and probably cost some power.

I tried some of the 4-pintle S50 injectors which were about 20.5# units.  There was not really any difference in anything at all.  I think I lost maybe 1 or 2MPG though.

Again, stick with stock.  I know it sucks when everything has already been done, but I guess that's why people pay for a BMW!

good info on the injectors, ive been wondering this same thing as well.  but what if the fuel pump were goin out and instead of spendin $200 on a oem replacement i got a 255lph? then what injectors would go well to match the pump? the fpr should be fine since its 3.0bar

With all the money I've put in this car recently I'm going to try and clean the injectors instead of replacing ($50 a piece at autohauz ). I see a good write up at Pelicans so I'll try it .I've  got new seals and another manifold gasket on the way .

If you mean physically clean the injectors then it probably won't do much as the pintle area is generally clean if you used good gas and/or quality fuel injector cleaner like Techron. It's usually the area around the pintle that remains dirty but this area generally doesn't have any effect on flow or spray pattern of the injectors.

If you want to send them out to get professionaly cleaned/blueprinted/flow tested, there are places like RC engineering that offers this service for around $25/injector and provide you with a data sheet afterwards.

There are also diy home methods that utilizes an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner and some carb cleaner type chemicals. Not sure how good these work though.

The fpr is what controls the pressure so changing pumps to higher capacity should have no effect on the injectors.

This could possibly help if the car was severely neglected or if a car got a really bad tank of gas. If your car runs fine, chances are that it is a waste of time. I've taken off 1/2 dozen injectors off high mileage cars in the past and all of them were as I described in my post above.

My car has hesitation problems around 4-5 K rpms . I've replaced numerous items and checked the rest . I won't list them cause the list is long .
I believe my injectors are dirty  .
I am going to try to clean them and hope this helps.
I did run some techron through my tank to no avail .

I'm assuming you probably checked the fpr along with the fpr vacuum hose?
