Wiper blades and arms
« on: April 02, 2007, 08:04:59 PM »
Hey guys, I have a set of wiper blade arms from an 89 325is.  The ones on my car are different.  I am not sure if the oe on my 318is are correct .  Can someone take a pic of your wiper arms and post it?  I will do the same.  The 325is wiper blade arms have 8 slots and a arc.

Wait, I'll take a pic.

As you can see the 318 arm that came off my car is pretty flat whereas the 325 arm has a slight curve to it.  Also, notice the difference in length.  I can probably just replace the whole set with something from the stealer just to make sure I am running the stock blades, that is, unless, I hear different from you guys.

Thanks

I'm going to try these as I've heard some good things about them and they are the OE manufacturer for all the European luxury manufacturers that come on the newest cars.

Also buy one and get one free offer helps too. :D

The ones on your 318IS are aftermarket ones from stores like Autozone. It is a generic fit system.

The parts you need to connect the original blade holder were removed at one time. Just go buy some high end Bosch from Autozone, they work well. Cost you about $15 - $20 for blades and holders.

Otherwise, you may be able to remove the clip on the "318" holder and place it around the shaft of the 325. Though they may be different diameters.

Just stay clear of the cheap ones at auto parts stores or Wallmart. I tend to buy the second most expensive ones. They last the longest. Cheap ones last me at most one season. Also stay clear of multi-edge setups, they are no better. Just get good upper end blades and fill your wiper tank with Rain-X. Best washer/blade combo you will ever find.

NO!
Autozone.

Why anyone would buy car parts at Walmart is beyond me.
Especially BMW parts.

I won't get into the difference in product quality between Walmart and other stores (which is different), but suffice to say, you should not be buying parts for your BMW at Walmart.

My Autozone has the same blades that my Wal mart has, only diff. is $2.00. I'm not buying "BMW parts", I'm just changing wiper blades? I also buy Zymol wax for $3.00 less then my autozone. Is anti-freeze a "BMW part" also? By the way, I hate wal mart but I won't spend more at autozone for the same basic maint. items like fuel injector cleaners, window cleaners, ect...                Like I said, I hate wal fart because I was a purchase agent for them for six years and I can tell you that the difference in Trico,Anco,rain-x, ect. compared to wal fart, is price. Wal Mart buys billions of these at a set batch rate,(just like a group buy). And since wal fart can buy more than autozone they get a much better price. Ever see the " American Eagle" tire at wal mart? They had a deal set up with Goodyear to produce these tires at a discount that was only available to wal mart only at a one time deal. The tread pattern and compound turned out to be great, (I have them on my Volvo S80 right now.) Same product diff name. My point is that wal fart gets many of the things they sell from the same vendor as the small guy's, but they pay less. GE and Sylvania lights are like the wiper blades and other products they sell, same quality. A six dollar bulb is purchased for roughly 90 cent's in a batch buy! As for product quality you are right in a way, Wal Fart buy's TV's, Stereos, Treadmills and products like these from the manufacture built with inferior parts that barely pass quality control standards. They make a deal with Wal Mart to move these items instead of taking the loss. If the item fails they will gladly take care of it, because the ratio of failure is low, despite having low quality parts. Every time they open a store, ten family owned stores go under, that is the main reason I hate Wal Mart. But I like my $ and I never use low quality item's on my car!

Tonyb thats entirely 100% true..

Sheepdog dont just bash Wal-mart cause its Wal-mart :p , Autozone really does have high prices. Wal-mart could put a lot of big business out if they dropped their prices really low. When I worked for Best Buy they always had to match wal-mart's prices and sometimes there was a minimal profit..

I buy my oil from wal-mart cause its wayy cheaper for the same Mobile 1 thats at Autozone/Kragen
