Failed emissions so I took it Terry Sayther's shop here in Austin to check out and get dialed in. I'm driving one of his car's until tomorrow. It's a M532i Station Wagon. That may not be an actual model, but that's what the emblems say. M suspension and drivetrain in a sleeper wagon except for the 18" wheels with Michelin Pilots. Oh, and leather M seats, steering wheel, and hardwood shift knob. That motor is the "izzle" of whatever. Not peaky - it just pulls and pulls and pulls.  Like Chuck Berry sang, "a power mo-jack with jet off take"!

You failed your emissions on your 318is?

Glad our state recently passed a no emission test law on Pre '95 vehicles with OBD1 or lower. :D

It seems like 318's have a lot of emmisions problems. Mine failed three or four times when the previous owner had it in CA. He ended up doing like $800 of work on it to get it to paqss. So glad indy doesn't test...

good luck

It's not m42s alone - it applies to a lot of older cars. If you took a look at how many cars don't get tune ups, are on old 02 sensors and are run with cheap gas, driving with around with clogged cats etc...you'd be surprised at the count. :D

Damn that sound so sweet... I might almost drive down there and fail emissions too...

Well Terry's machine said it passed but it's not official. Went to another inspection station, paid another $28.50, and passed with half of the hydrocarbons. Terry's solution was to run the piss out of it and keep the temp up until they stuck the hose up the tailpipe. As to no testing in San Antonio, you know what they say about Austin - tree huggers and queers, that's all they got up there! Actually they only test in a few counties in Texas. Woe to Dallas also.

Wait, so you have to pay for your emissions tests? Talk about getting up the rear tailpipe twice...:D

Have to pay for them in VA and GA as well.... but really, I can only guess that YOU'RE paying for them too, it's probably just rolled into taxes and such.

We pay in California as well, about $35-50 + an addl. amount for the actual certificate every two years for cars older than 7 years.  Its a serious scam IMHO.  I always have to get the motor (and cat) in my cabrio über-hot before I smog it.  Other things that help is a fresh oil change and a clean air filter.

You bet your bottom dollar. Not only are we paying for it with our taxes but also footing the bill for the new dyno rollers that were recently installed in all the emissions stations. Oh, and also we have to pay for all the damage claims done by the dyno rollers or operator error.

So for the newer cars = gas cap test, sniffer test, dyno test, OBD check light test. No visuals yet like Cali though.

BTW, my parking tickets have already paid for all the city Tulips down my block for the whole summer. ;)

yeah, they have the dynos in GA too. Makes me wonder, what kind of dyno is it? If you're going to force the install of hundreds of dynos around the city, can I pay a little extra during my emissions and do some tuning? :D Might as well get something useful out of it.
